It's a shorter game, and while not for everyone, is a fun thing to waste time on. Check out I Am Fish if you have Game Pass. But for the most part, the game receives at least a passing grade in it's polish. For instance, if you're swimming with the other fish, they will automatically swim to you, possibly impeding your ability to jump or use an ability. There are frame drops in the cutscenes, and some gameplay mechanics don't work extremely well. It's cute for the entire playthrough, and definitely presents a distinct challenge even if half the battle is simply getting the character to go where you want them. Still, the narrative that is woven into the game is pretty nice, as they really didn't have to do it. While I definitely enjoy the animation and the fun puzzle-ness of the game's routes that it presents you with, the first hurdle during every level is simply controlling the fish in whatever environment you're in (I could go my entire life without seeing another fish in a jar of water). It's not horrible, but I wouldn't really recommend it either, so a solid meh.Ħ0% Xbox Series X/S6/10 While I Am Fish is a fun and cute game, it is also, at times, infuriatingly hard to control and play. A fun physics platformer with clever levels, a bit of puzzling, and a terrifying man wearing a farmers cap. ![]() I had to mute the game because hearing the same 3 note melody for the 100th time was perhaps even more frustrating than not being able to get the proper jump height. I Am Fish review: a physics platformer with sole. The music suffers from something similar where it's basically only 4-8 bars that repeat infinitely with perhaps some instrumentals coming and going. But also during the hospital level where the guy kept saying the same 3 lines over and over. One day, this fish gets tired of not having access to oxygen and decides to make a break for it. Specifically, you are a small goldfish in a perfectly round and sealed fishbowl. The dialog snippets were really repetitive, which really annoyed me as I was failing the same jump over and over. The I Am Fish demo pretty much sums it up: You are a fish. ![]() Yes it handles like a dumptruck on ice, but you know it's going to so you have to start adjusting your direction really early. Anyway, it looks quite nice and some of the sections are challenging in a fun way, such as the sphere-shaped fishbowl. Perhaps it's not possible, but it felt awful to basically get no jump if you just grazed the control stick. I either got a low and long jump or a high jump that didn't go forward, but never something in between. This game lacks that, even after finishing it, I couldn't really force a good jump from water with the flying fish. 60% PCOne of those games with purposefully frustrating controls, which I don't necessarily mind as long as they're predictable, like "Getting over It" for instance.
